"I really
enjoyed my time at CIS. The school is run professionally with
excellent teaching for all levels. My host mother was perfect
and really helped make my stay an unforgettable one. The school
runs excursions to various cultural sites in the region and the
weekly courses in cooking or dancing (in Spanish!) are good examples
of how they try to think outside the normal remit for helping
developing and improving your language skills. I would thoroughly
recommend anyone looking to learn Spanish in Mexico to do so with
CIS as I learnt a
huge amount with some genuinely great people." Peter

"Hola,
Well, very nice to visit Merida. From there you can make wonderful
trips to all kind of places.(Uxmal, El Progreso, Celestun, Izumal
etc.) The school can inform you as well. During the last 8 years,
when I travel through all kind of countries in South America,
I always book myself 1 week spanish lessons, and there I decide
to take another week or more. As my spanish is allready pretty
good I cannot tell you how the beginners classes will be in Merida.
It also depend on the number of students of course. (During my
stay in Merida there were a lot of american girls, acting like
a group, not looking for making contact with any other person
and with in my opinion very bad manners). In my group we were
with only 3, and with a very good teacher. So I decided to stay
for another week. I booked 4 hours a day, and in the afternoon
the school organize lots of things to do. (cooking, salsa, excursions
etc.). I always decide at the place what to do. So it is up to
you. You can book for 4 hours and overthere change your plans
and take 5 hours. And the same for the family you are staying
with. If you don't like the place, the family, or whatever the
school will help you to find other possibilities. Of course you
have to realize that you have to adept and enjoy the mexican way
of life! I don't like airco at all, not even when it is very hot,
I prefer a van, so never a problem for me. Anyhow, I can recomend
the school, very helpful, good teaching, flexible standards. Hope
you enjoy your stay. (I also can recomend San Christobal de las
Casas and Oaxaca, with spanish lessons as well and to travel around
in Mexico!) On the site www.123teachme.com you can find all kind
of information in all countries and cities, with references from
students and so on.
Have a nice time, kind regards, Marjan van der Weerd, Holland"

Regarding
volunteer work:
liked
working at Solyluna very much.
It was hard for me, because my spanish was not to well and the
people working there were not very open and easy to get in contact
with. In the beginning I was a little disappointed about this
because my expectations were different.
They didn't talk very much to me and sometimes I didn't know what
they wanted me to do.
Working with the children and my contact with Marian was very
nice. I learned a lot about how the facility's in Mexico are for
disabled children and ther family's.
I hope the teachers learned something from me also.
When
new students are going to Solyluna it's important they speak better
spanish than I do.
Also it's good to know that it's sometimes hard to have real contact
with the teachers.
To help the children it's good to have some experience, because
some children have very difficult behaviours and handicaps.
Thank
you for contacting Marian, because I wanted to go there so much.
My time at school I liked also, but I missed contact with other
students sometimes. I know I can't blame the school for this,
but my expectations were a lot different before I came to Merida.
Also staying in the house was not that nice sometimes. When I
look back at this part of my staying in Merida, I think it would
have been better when I would have gone to another family.
Thank
you for everything! Liesbeth ( liehol@hotmail.com )
